This has been me arguing with my brain for the last 4 days:
Me: This is so great! All I have left to do is the background check and drug screen and I am set to start!
Brain: You know, your job is pending these requirements. If you don’t pass, you don’t get the job. We should start worrying about not getting the job.
Me: Wait, what?
Brain: What if you don’t pass the background check? You’re all big and bad now, but what happens if you fail?
Me: …Did I commit a felony I am unaware of? What exactly would come up on my background check?
Brain: I mean, you did get that speeding ticket three years ago. But what if you don’t pass the drug test, huh? Then what??
Me: …Did I start doing drugs I am unaware of? Why the hell would I fail a drug test? Are you looking for things to be nervous about?
Brain: …………Maybe.
Me: Knock it off.
Brain: Fine!
Not sure what this is about. Other than old habits die hard and if there’s nothing to worry about, my brain invent something. Thanks, brain. Good looking out.
Thankfully, I got cleared to start my new job a few minutes ago and they called to make sure they were mailing my work laptop to the right address. Which might not arrive on Monday, all things considered, but we will cross that bridge when we come to it.
If nothing else, I need to sign up for health benefits, because I am rapidly running out of the medication I just so thoroughly proved I cannot abruptly stop taking, and I need to get in to see my doctor. Let’s go!
I have a plan for how I’m going to get started. But honestly, I think it might take awhile before I can get my ID and get on the network, so I am ready for whatever comes.
I can’t wait!!
