Waiting By the Phone

I just had the best interview of my entire life. I felt like I understood my interviewers, like they understood me. The three people on the call remarked that they loved my resume, my experience, were absolutely interested in what I had to say, and right before sign off, I said it was so nice to meet them and I hope to get to talk to them more in the future and the project manager said, “Me, too!”

There wasn’t anything in the interview where I thought, “oh no, I said the wrong thing” or “I don’t have the ability to do this,” or even, “I didn’t realize this about the job, now I am less excited.” The entire interview went so well, I was shocked.

Beyond a great interview, I am a total fit for this role because I have literally done this job before. I’m a senior in my field and everything they told me about the contract, I was like, I’ve done this, I’ve done that, I can definitely do that.

They want PowerPoint presentations? Bring it on. I love them! They need to build their documentation from the ground up? Not only have I done that several times before, I already have some ideas about where to start just by taking a look at the SharePoint sites they showed me.

I feel like I might have been their first interview. They emailed me in the morning and I took the first interview slot, which was about two and a half hours later. The second slot they offered was on Friday. There’s a chance I was the first person they talked to. Although you never know who you’re up against, I feel like I put that bar on the fucking ceiling.

If I don’t get this job, I have lost it to a documentation god. If I don’t get this job, I will also cry. I’m pretty sure some ugly crying will be taking place. Probably lots of it.

But just in case, I picked out a place for us to go to our celebration dinner. It’s a Japanese steakhouse. Nothing left to do but to wait by the phone.
